Located in South Carolina's beachfront community Kiawah Island, this 5,500 sq.ft. home offers a traditional low-country architectural styling with picturesque views and plenty of space for entertaining family and friends. Featuring 5 bedrooms, 5 and a half baths, an screened outdoor living space with fireplace, bar, grill and pool, the family can all enjoy the scenery of the Kiawah River Course's 18th tee and the marshland beyond.
This Kiawah project was designed for a couple that was replacing their existing home at the time. The most important feature this couple wanted that their other home lacked was abundant outdoor living space including a pool. The indoor spaces included bedrooms for their four children, a guest suite and a three car garage.
Among the challenges for this project included the flood zone that required a finish floor seven feet above grade and a very stringent Review Board which limited the total square footage, the overall building height and the setbacks on the property. As the lot is bordered by marsh on the left side and the golf course in the back, the owners wanted a light filled home to take advantage of
those scenic views. We went to the limit in regards to the property setbacks, height restriction and lot coverage.
Inside, the living room, dining room and kitchen all face the endless edge pool and golf course. The screened living area outside is an spacious room with fireplace and built-in grill. The master bedroom is angled to fit within the setbacks and provide a view towards the pool and golf course and the master bath has an exquisite view to the marsh.
We have a two bedroom guest house over the garage and the four kids all have bedrooms upstairs. The exterior styling is a shingle style that compliments the architectural vernacular of Kiawah Island. The deep porches and overhangs characteristic of the lowcountry vernacular, combined with the sophistication of the Shingle style, blend together to create a relaxed, yet refined retreat.
